A teenager decides to stay home for the day to play videogames online. We enter this virtual world together with him, and learn about the connections he‘s lost in the outside world and the new ones he‘s made in the digital one. Rapid advancements in computer and information technology in the last few decades made it possible for a lot of social interaction to disappear from physical public space. Much of it reappears on servers and computer screens around the world – compressed, digitized and rendered in 3D. Although this “hidden“ public space looks and feels very different at first, it provides many of the functions it‘s analogue counterpart does. And for many, it is not only an escape, but a much needed liberation from boundaries that the physical world imposes on them.
